Frequently asked questions about CRITIR
General
When should an infrared façade survey be shot?
There is no single answer, because the best window differs per face. An east face gets sun in the morning and a west face in the afternoon, and in practice neighbouring buildings and terrain cut those hours down further.
The free web tool Thermal Planner takes an address and simulates sunlight and shadow for each face of the building, giving you recommended windows and a printable capture plan before you leave. See Capture planning (Thermal Planner) for how to use it, and Shooting tips for conditions on the day.
Does Thermal Planner require a CRITIR licence?
No. Thermal Planner is free, needs no account, and runs in any browser. It does rely on Project PLATEAU and Geospatial Information Authority of Japan data for building geometry, so it covers Japan only and its interface is in Japanese.
Can CRITIR be used offline?
Yes — once installed, basic viewing, analysis, and report export all work offline. However, license activation and automatic weather data retrieval for reports (AMeDAS) require an internet connection. When offline, enter the weather data manually.
Can one license be used on multiple PCs?
Yes. However, the app cannot run on multiple PCs at the same time.
Is a GPU required for 3D model generation?
High Quality (GPU / CUDA) generation requires a CUDA-capable NVIDIA GPU. On PCs without a GPU, choose Light 3D (CPU / no GPU) to generate 3D models without one. See 3D models for details.
Is an RTK-capable drone required?
No. Images captured with a standard GPS drone can still be used for image linking, wall-surface orthomosaics, and 3D model generation. For images captured with an RTK-capable drone, a fast processing path that leverages the high-precision position data is applied automatically: image linking time is reduced significantly, and alignment accuracy and stability also improve. Note that this fast path only applies to images recorded while RTK was in a FIX (fixed solution) state. Even with an RTK-capable drone, images captured without a fix (Float, standalone positioning, etc.) go through the standard processing path.
Can I move a project to another PC?
Yes. From the project list screen, export the project as a .critix file and import it on the destination PC. Measurement results, orthomosaics, 3D data, and more are carried over. See Export for details.
Images
Which image formats are supported?
CRITIR supports the R-JPEG format from DJI drones, radiometric JPEGs from FLIR cameras, images from HIKMICRO cameras, the .IS2 format from Fluke cameras, R-JPEGs from Skydio drones (X10 / VT300-Z), the .SIX format from NEC Avio cameras, and the .BMT format from testo cameras. Standard JPEG/PNG images can also be loaded as visible images.

Visible and infrared images are not paired correctly
Check the following.
- Are the visible and infrared images in the same folder?
- Do the file names follow the camera's naming convention? (Renamed files may not be detected)
- Were the images captured with a supported camera?
The visible and infrared images are misaligned
First, check the supported cameras list.
Because the thermal camera and the visible camera are physically offset, a slight misalignment can occur depending on the shooting conditions.

Can reports be customized?
The following can be customized.
- Paper size (A4 / A3 / Letter) and orientation (portrait / landscape)
- Which pages to include (cover, survey overview, equipment, overview, detail sheets, summary tables)
- Cover page information (client, title, property name, survey date, logo, etc.)
- Detail sheet layout (auto / wide top / tall left / stacked)
- Editing of weather data, environmental assessment, and equipment information
- Filters (exclude measurements without a type / exclude measurements with no anomaly)
